Steve has been part of MLM for 30 years and since 2008 has been MLM Group Chairman. A Director of MLM Consulting Engineers, Steve has over 35 years experience across all sectors of the UK property and construction industries. He has been responsible for building and infrastructure projects from concept and feasibility studies to delivery, where he brings a strong commercial understanding and imagination.
He heads MLM’s strategic marketing function and is actively involved in setting and delivering the firm’s strategic and commercial objectives.
Steve works closely with major UK clients and funding institutions, and he also leads MLM’s overseas activity, where he has been particularly active in the Middle East, Europe and more recently Scandinavia, working with global clients, international contractors and local partners.

Rob is the Managing Director of the Structures and Infrastructure Business Unit and responsible for the team in London.
He has a specialism in design and construct work and has developed unique and successful processes to risk, opportunity and value engineering. To optimise the designs, his team of highly trained engineers and technicians are equipped with state of the art design, analysis and 3-D Building Information Modelling software.
Rob believes that the key to his team’s success is the way in which they create simple, elegant and cost effective solutions to complex engineering problems. Solutions which meet these criteria are often the most carbon efficient and sustainable as well. Rob is a team player with a particular interest in collaborative working and continuous improvement. Lee is a Director of MLM with experience on a wide variety of projects including bridges, building superstructure, foundations, drainage, paving and rail infrastructure. Lee has been responsible for developing MLM’s multidisciplinary delivery strategy and has a thorough understanding of project requirements from Planning through to detailed Design stages, across all market sectors.
Lee has also led MLM’s continued expansion into the Rail sector and successfully increased MLM’s rail capabilities and capacity, focussing on Client’s needs, value engineering and successful delivery. Paul is a Director of MLM Building Control, who uses his twenty years experience and creative skills to take an innovative approach to problem solving and help deliver buildings that work well, deliver on budget and meet compliance obligations. Paul leads the commercial side of the Building Control Division.
He has extensive experience in major commercial and high rise developments, education, hotels and high end residential premises, with particular expertise in developing fire and value engineered solutions for new and refurbished buildings.

A Chartered Geologist with over 25 years experience in contaminated land investigation, environmental due diligence, environmental impact assessment, geotechnics, waste management, asbestos consultancy, reclamation and regeneration schemes in the UK and internationally.
Based in the Cambridge office, Darren leads MLM’s Environmental business, offering multidisciplinary services to clients in all sectors both nationally and internationally. His teams operate from several of MLM’s UK offices and include contaminated land consultants, engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, ecologists, air quality consultants and asbestos consultants.
Darren has a particular responsibility for multidisciplinary geotechnical and environmental services as part of the company’s environment, planning and development work and buildings and infrastructure projects. He is able to offer expert advice and innovative remedial solutions for development on sites with challenging geotechnical and contaminated land conditions.

Mel leads the Building Services unit within the MLM Bristol office. Mel has a passion for building services design, using his experience to influence others within the team of providing a cost effective, timely and innovative design. Mel’s career within the Building Services industry has extended from being a Junior Engineer through to his current position, with experience spanning most aspects of the construction process. This has included being a Design Manager for a national Contractor, through to Residential Engineer roles and to Project Director positions responsible for multi-discipline design teams.

As a Director based in the Ashford office, James heads up a team of mechanical, electrical and public health engineers. He has worked on a wide range and diverse projects in the educational, residential care, leisure, multi-dwelling and luxury private housing markets.

A Chartered Structural Engineer whose work encompasses all forms of engineering consultancy from pre-planning reporting to project delivery. Since graduating from Cambridge in 2002, Richard has developed his technical and management skills to deliver engineering projects both on time and on budget to developers, private clients and contractors, and is well known in the Cambridge market.
As an engineer, Richard specialises in structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber designs across all sectors but primarily in offices, commercial, residential and retail sectors. He has worked as a project engineer both within and leading design teams on projects up to £200m in value.
Richard is a Director in MLM Group’s Cambridge Office and has responsibilities for marketing, proposals and delivery of multi-disciplinary services in the local Cambridge market as well as the wider Eastern region.

As a Director of the MLM Structures Division, Martin leads the Structures teams in the Ipswich and Norwich offices.
With experience on a wide variety of projects, recent works include new build and refurbishments in the commercial, retail, residential, education and healthcare sectors.
With 25 years experience Martin has longstanding relationships with very many clients including private and limited companies, commercial developers, Design and Build contractors, education and healthcare institutions, local authorities, consultants and project managers based throughout East Anglia and London. He leads several frameworks within the health sector and has specialisms within the food sector. He is responsible for leading the MLM team in all aspects of project delivery involving direct liaison with Clients and design teams from conception to completion. Martin has also advised stunt co-ordinators for several projects for Top Gear!

Mark is a Director responsible for project delivery and business development in the Structures team. He has over 20 years structural engineering experience gained on a variety of residential, retail, office, commercial, refurbishment and leisure projects.
His experience relates to all aspects of building procurement including providing engineering input to assist clients in site appraisals / development studies pre and post site purchase. His experience extends to new developments and includes refurbishing, reporting and dealing with defects, direct client contact and liaison through all stages of a project, and day to day running of project teams.
He is responsible for project technical delivery management issues, and coordination with other disciplines to ensure the clients aspirations are achieved in regard to quality, value engineering and programme.

With over 25 years experience in all aspects of industrial and residential infrastructure design and detailing whilst working for approving authorities, consultants and developers. Jim also has experience designing and detailing roads and sewer schemes, obtaining approvals, site supervision, and contract administration including BOQ’s and preparing tenders for civil engineering schemes. Jim directs and manages the infrastructure team’s high standards of detailed design and on-time delivery.

Considerable experience in carrying out design reviews, value engineering and preparation of engineering feasibility studies. Experience in residential, retail, leisure, education, manufacturing facilities, offices and warehousing schemes up to £45m construction cost. Regularly involved with the development of engineering schemes from inception to completion with employers, architects and Project Managers.

Director of MLM’s Cambridge Office, Nick is a highly regarded Structural Engineer with experience drawn from 30 years of delivering a wide variety of building and property related projects in Cambridge and the wider region. Nick is responsible for maintaining the quality and excellence of the team in Cambridge, as well as ensuring that tenders, calculations, drawings and deliverables are provided on time and on budget. He is passionate about providing opportunity to and development of Graduate Engineers, and ensuring that core engineering skills are inherent in our training of the next generation of engineers.
Nick is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, as well as a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. In addition, he currently holds the Regional Group Chairman for the Institution of Structural Engineers and sits on the National Council.

Shahram is a recognized leader in the industry in the management, design, documentation and construction supervision of major structures and civil engineering works, with particular skills in the project and design management and coordination of multi-discipline infrastructure and building projects at a global level.

Ben is a Director of MLM and an experienced chartered civil engineer who has a flexible and open approach that unlocks potential in schemes. He has pioneered sustainable civil engineering design services and is recognised as a creative and innovative problem solver.
Ben has delivered projects from concept to completion across a number of sectors, working closely with structural engineering colleagues and external multi-disciplinary teams. Ben’s responsibilities have included: drainage design, complex detailed infrastructure coordination, pavement design, utilities diversions, ground modelling and high quality public realm design. He has also been responsible for team management – including resourcing, forecasts, fee proposals and quality assurance.

A Chartered Civil Engineer with over 25 years’ experience in engineering design, construction, planning and management. Director of MLM Consulting Engineers Ltd. and managing Director of MLM’s Civil Engineering business unit.
Responsibility for commercial and technical aspects of various projects. Recent work includes engineering design, advice and reports for outline and detailed development planning applications; detailed design for a wide range of schemes including highways, waste management projects such as Civic Amenity sites, Waste Transfer Stations, Anaerobic Digestion plants and the like.

Toby leads our Ashford team and has extensive experience in the local Kent market, London and the South East, as well as leading and working on projects across many parts of the UK.
He has over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of highway and infrastructure design and detailing together with site supervision and contract administration while working for consultants, developers and approving authorities.
Toby has experience of managing projects both internally, leading a multidisciplinary team of MLM engineers, and as part of an external project management team responsible for the timely delivery by others.

Environmental Director with over 19 years’ experience, with responsibilities for geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations, landfill permitting and engineering, infrastructure, earthworks and land reclamation projects.
Jason is a Chartered Geologist in ground investigation, geotechnical engineering, contaminated land, earthworks and landfill engineering.
He is responsible for delivering the environmental and geotechnical aspects of the rail work MLM undertakes, including technical review, tender production, project management, field work and detailed design. Jason is responsible for all landfill engineering relating to the landfill including landfill permit applications, remediation of former dilute and disperse areas, landfill cell design and cell restoration works.

A Director of Building Control who has worked in London for over 25 years gaining a wide range of experience dealing with large office buildings and multi-storey residential projects to small domestic extensions, gaining considerable experience in both public and private sectors of Building Regulation control.
Ian has a Diploma in Management (University of Leicester). Responsible for a team of surveyors and for the technical management output to meet client expectations. Additionally Ian also regularly sits on the RICS APC interview panels.

Michael has over 20 years’ experience as a Building Control Surveyor. He has worked on a wide variety of projects within London ranging from the development of a City Academy, Housing Schemes and Residential Units for students at a University Campus. He has also had experience with refurbishment work ranging from a hospital to a major retail store.
Michael strongly believes in professional development and was a part time lecturer at the University of Westminster. He has also presented a series of lectures on Building Regulations at both national events and to small practices. Michael is a past President of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and is a Registered Building Surveyor (B0253) with SCSI as an Assigned Certifier. Michael has also been involved in the recent schemes in Ireland including the Education project at Trinity College where MLM Ireland provided full Assigned Certifier support and also in the Grangegorman DIT Research Hub.

Russell is a highly experienced Building Control Surveyor with over 30 years’ experience in both local authority and the private sector and has been responsible for prestigious multi million pound developments. He is experienced at dealing with a wide range of complex commercial projects including retail, healthcare, industrial, high rise residential, education and ministry of defence, bringing a wealth of technical knowledge alongside a high level of commercial acumen.
With an in-depth understanding of the Building Regulations, Russell integrates fully with the design team to deliver Building Control in an effective and commercial manner to see full compliance is achieved whilst meeting the client’s needs and aspirations.
Russell has been in a senior managerial role for 16 years and is highly experienced as an approved inspector developing a high quality and effective client focused Building Control service.

With an ability to offer pragmatic compliance advice and assist the team in finding bespoke solutions to technical challenges, Dale enjoys assisting teams with value engineering and making the Building Control process simple and user friendly.

A professionally qualified RICS Chartered Surveyor and team leader for the Ashford office. Adam has actively assisted the development of the Ashford team from its infancy to an established and busy office and currently leads the team. With an excellent knowledge of the Building Regulations and allied legislation, Adam is experienced in dealing successfully with all building types, both commercial and residential.
Adam is driven to provide value engineering for control and to provide alternative solutions to enable creative design. He has excellent knowledge of BS9999, BS9991 and associated fire standards. Adam is also an APC Doctor for the RICS and has attended and successfully completed the Institute of Fire Engineers Fire Risk Assessment Training and has good experience in carrying out Fire Risk Assessments.

Experienced in advising clients on a wide range of fire safety requirements required for Building Control compliance. Darren also has a comprehensive understanding of BS 9999 and fire engineered solutions.

Helen Duffy is a registered Assigned Certifier, Architect and Director of MLM Ireland with responsibility for leading the management function and delivering on the strategic objectives of the business. With over 25 years of experience working with Building Regulations in the UK, Northern Ireland and Ireland, Helen is well placed to advise upon compliance and building control processes. Helen has a ‘hands on’ approach, managing personnel within the Design and Construction teams and guiding the stakeholders through the BCAR process. Helen joined MLM in January 2015 opening the Dublin office and steers our growing team at MLM Ireland as a leading provider of independent third party Assigned Certifier services and Compliance Consultancy.

Robert is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner, Chartered Building Engineer, Chartered Construction Manager, Chartered Builder, Chartered Manager, Registered Health and Safety Practitioner and Registered Clerk of Works. Robert chairs the review panel for CABE and IOSH to evaluate applications for Chartered Membership. Robert is a Trustee and Director of The Chartered Institute of Building. His extensive technical knowledge, practical hands on experience and common sense approach allows him to interact at all levels to deliver projects in a cooperative environment.

Kev has over 18 years’ experience working in environmental consultancy, of which over 15 years has been within the specialist field of acoustics. He is highly experienced in a wide range of noise measurement, prediction and assessment projects. These include environmental noise and vibration surveys, compliance monitoring, environmental impact assessments, environmental permit assessments and planning, occupational, construction, wind farm, road traffic, rail traffic, aircraft and industrial noise and vibration assessments, in addition to the provision of external peer review and expert witness testimony.
Kev has gained a reputation for the development of comprehensive acoustic strategies and narratives, for acoustically challenging projects, often with highly complex multi-disciplinary interactions or projects that appear to be in conflict with policy or political will. Kev is retained by power generators, developers and Local Authorities for the provision of such strategic advice.

Mark is a Chartered Engineer with over 16 years’ experience working in Acoustic Consultancy. He is experienced in a wide range of acoustic projects including Building Acoustic and Environmental Noise and Vibration projects.
Current areas of specialism include the provision of Architectural Acoustic design advice for Residential, Hotel, Commercial and Educational buildings across the UK and Middle East. In addition to this, Mark is experienced in producing noise and vibration chapters for EIA’s for major infrastructure projects such as railways, roads, industrial processes and power stations. These assessments use state of the art noise and vibration measurement instrumentation and often employ the noise modelling suite Cadna/A, and prediction methodologies of BS 5228, ISO 9613, CRTN and CRN.
In terms of Building Acoustics, Mark is experienced in using CATT acoustics, BS 12354, BE EN ISO 140 and Building Regulations Approved Document E.

Steven has in excess of 14 years’ experience in the Fire industry with international companies that specialise in Fire Engineering and Fire Safety Systems. This has provided him with a good understanding of both technical and contractual issues associated with the industry for a wide range of clients.
Steven has worked on a very wide range of building projects, from single storey schools through to high rise and prestigious landmark projects. In doing so he has developed a very strong understanding of the technical issues associated with the design and construction of a diverse range of building types.
Over his career Steven has successfully led a number of fire engineering teams, where he has been responsible for their successful and sustainable growth. To achieve this Steven has developed strong client care and project management skills that assist in delivering repeated success in all his endeavours.

Elliot has been with MLM since 2001 and is Financial Director for the group.
He leads the team which covers the finances across the whole of the MLM group.
Elliot plays a key part in all of the companies’ boards and has valuable input in the strategic direction that the business takes. Elliot’s hands on approach enables him to have a strong handle on the performance of the business.
