MLM received two accolades at the BREEAM Awards, hosted by Ecobuild at London’s ExCeL Centre on Tuesday, 6 March.

This prestigious event recognises excellence in the sustainability sector at both individual and company levels globally and showcases projects and people from around the world.

MLM picked up two awards for their valuable contribution on the SEBRAE Sustainability Centre in Cuiabá, Brazil. Winning the Americas category and public vote was a great result, recognising the dedication and hard work of the client and MLM team in the UK and Brazil. The project achieved the first ‘Excellent’ rating for BREEAM in use in South America.

The guests received narrative from the event host, Robert Llewellyn, actor, comedian and writer who is an avid promoter of sustainable living. Robert is best known for the hit TV sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf and as a presenter of Channel 4’s Scrapheap Challenge. Alongside the MLM and Brazil team, the project architect, José Alfonse Botura Portocarrero attended the evening and presented MLM with a book of his work and studies.

The judges commented:

“This project stood out as a beacon of sustainability in the region, with the potential to raise awareness and understanding of sustainable design principles across Central and South America. Adopting sustainable solutions alongside indigenous approaches enables wide replicability using local skills and technologies.”
