Gloria Burne receives APA recognition for her influence within the industry - News - MLM

We are delighted to announce that Gloria Burne, Accounts Payable Manager, has received an award of recognition from the Accounts Payable Association (APA) for her influence within the industry.

Gloria picked up her award at the APA 2019 Conference and Awards in Birmingham on 15 October, accompanied by her colleagues, Phil Burne and Katie Wright from the Purchase Ledger team. She was recognised for giving a ‘positive voice’ for the APA and using her influence to promote AP through training courses and LinkedIn to help encourage newcomers.

Gloria joined the company 20 years ago as a receptionist and accounts administrator before choosing to focus her career within Accounts Payable. During her time with the company she has achieved APAT and APAM qualifications and progressed to a management role four years ago.

Notable achievements include training up three members of the team to become competent accounts clerks, including her son Phil, who is now her deputy manager. The Approved Suppliers list has now been reduced by 50% and she’s negotiated a 27% reduction in costs from our regular stationery supplier.

Gloria’s passion has inspired her team and this accolade from such a high profile organisation has established her as a true ambassador for APA careers.

Elliot Wells, Finance Director comments:

“Since Gloria started her journey with the APA, I’ve seen the positive impact it’s had, not only on her ‘day-to-day’ job, but also the way she works with others. She’s grown in confidence and her contribution to the business has been greatly improved by her enhanced team leadership skills and ability to think outside the box. We already have other members of the team signed up and I would encourage others to do so.”

There were some added delights to the day. Gloria was surprised to learn that she had also been selected as a runner up for ‘AP Manager of the Year’. That wasn’t all – Phill, Katie and Gloria got runner up in the ‘Significant Team Achievement’ award.

Gloria comments:

“I was delighted to receive recognition from the APA for my influence within the industry, I was very humbled when I realised I had been selected as one of the top 50 from over 50,000 APA members. I enjoy what I do and am proud my achievements. My main career aspirations are to continue in Accounts Payable and promote and encourage young people to consider a career within the profession.

“I am so very proud that MLM supported me in my training for AP studies and am super proud that I was chosen out of 50,000. I am immensely proud of Phil and Katie (and me) for their achievements. It is a remarkable result for us. Thank you MLM for the support you have given us.”
