MLM provided a full range of multi-disciplinary services to Farrans (Construction) for the development of a new Waste Transfer Station (WTS) in Colchester. This was one of five new WTS sites being developed across the county.

MLM, via Lanpro, were responsible for obtaining planning permission for the facility including the production of all planning reports as part of the planning application. Planning permission was granted in July 2013.

The site is capable of handling 95,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year.

The facility comprises a 78m x 34m Waste Transfer Station with 5m high reinforced concrete pushwalls, together with a welfare office, weighbridge office with 18m long In/Out weighbridges, sprinkler tank, staff parking and an external concrete service yard.

The site was a greenfield site on the outskirts of Colchester, adjacent to the A120.

Due to the location of the site, careful sensitivity to the visual appearance of the building was required. This resulted in using cedar boarding to the front elevation to give a rural agricultural appearance. The site was handed over to Essex County Council in August 2014.

The project was awarded winner in the category of infrastructure at the 2016 RICS awards.
