MLM were closely involved with ISG Jackson in the detailed design process of the M&E services, developing the client’s requirements to achieve an EcoHomes ‘Very Good’ rating, and to minimise the energy consumption of the site, with the use of ‘renewable energy’ technology.

The installed services solutions include low energy lighting, with intelligent controls, high efficiency gas-fired boilers, roof mounted micro wind turbines and a solar array.

26 solar panels with 70m2 of collector area are installed on the flat roof, pre-heating the domestic hot water in three 1000 litre buffer vessels, with direct gas-fired water heaters only providing a top-up when required.

With a peak output of 62kW, and an annual saving of 31,000kWh/year, the solar array is predicted to save 6,750kg (6.75 tonne) of CO2 per year.

Four micro-turbines, each with a rated output of 1kW at 12m/s wind speed, provide on-site electricity generation, further reducing the carbon footprint. It is anticipated that the renewable energy sources will generate at least 8% of the predicted energy demand.
