New re-homing facility on an existing farm site comprising kennelling for assessment, isolation, sanctuary, and eventual re-homing purposes, including veterinary facilities, reception areas and public viewing areas together with on site staff accommodation. MLM were appointed as Structural and Civil Engineering consultants to provide engineering advice on structure, roads and drainage, including liaising with the local drainage authority and the Environment Agency regarding drainage discharge from the site into local water courses and Section 278 road works to provide a new entrance to the site.

The structure comprises a combination of loadbearing masonry, steel and timber structures on traditional strip foundations on a sloping site with green roof construction. The buildings use state of the art Passivhaus construction techniques to minimise energy consumption with biomass boilers and photovoltaic panels providing heat and power to the facility. The project was awarded the RICS East Midlands Award for Design and Innovation 2013, the RICS East Midlands Project of the Year Award and is being put forward for the National RICS awards in London scheduled to take place in October 2013.
