The project comprised the inspection and assessment of 65 bridges located throughout the East of England which are used by the Environment Agency to access their assets.

The bridges were typically over watercourses and works included accessing the bridges by either wader or boat as well as undertaking land based inspection and survey.

Following the initial inspection, further surveys or testing were scheduled depending on the type and condition of the structure. Tests included Schmidt hammer tests for concrete strength and testing for carbonation chlorides or sulphates.

Following collation of record information, site measurement and testing an assessment was undertaken in accordance with Highway Standards.

For each structure a report was prepared which included recommendations for repairs and a Schedule of Permitted Vehicles.
