MLM were commissioned to undertake the design of a new quay wall in advance of the proposed re-development of Cook’s Shipyard for residential units.

The design included lengths of traditional anchored and cantilevered steel sheet piled wall and in some areas raking piled anchorages were provided where land constraints were restricted. The design also included attenuation structures and the foundations for a large crane to be included as a feature on the site.  All structures were piled due to the very poor ground conditions to a depth of 7m.

The Structural Team at MLM undertook the designs to the residential units which included precast concrete floors on load bearing masonry with a steel frame roof structure on piled foundations.

Key Features

  • Steel sheet piled wall in very poor ground conditions.
  • Value engineering of an original concept.
  • Adapting the design to suit features discovered on-site as work progresses.
