Design of temporary works including temporary foundations, track retaining structures and piling mats; Category 3 check of propping system; AIPs, Design Certificates and Network Rail approval documentation.

The project comprised the demolition and replacement of life expired intermediate piers to Grosvenor Bridge, crossing the mainline railway at Royal Tunbridge Wells. The new piers required enhanced foundations and the temporary works foundations were required to be integral with these. Works necessitated piling close to the railway and excavations and foundation works below and close to the tracks. Bored piles and a king post retaining wall were the chosen solution.

Key Features

  • Excavations within the track protection zone.
  • Piling, jacking and propping close to the railway.
  • Limited space and headroom for temporary works.
  • AIP and Network Rail approvals required.
