MLM provided a full range of multi-disciplinary services to Farrans (Construction) for the development of a new Waste Transfer Station (WTS) in Harlow. This was one of five new WTS sites being developed across the county. Planning permission was granted in October 2011.

The site is capable of handling 55,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year. The facility comprises a 49m x 30m Waste Transfer Station with 5m high reinforced concrete pushwalls, together with a welfare office, weighbridge office with 18m long In/Out weighbridges, sprinkler tank, staff parking and an external concrete service yard.

The site was a brownfield site within the industrial estate of Harlow.  Extensive contamination was found to be present which influenced the foundation design for the Waste Transfer Station, changing to a reinforced concrete raft solution to avoid excavating and disposing of contaminated soil.

The site was handed over to Essex County Council in August 2014.
