The Eagle site provides a new state of the art waste handling facility for Serco under the 25 year Sandwell Waste Management Framework. The site was formerly an industrial site with a number of manufacturing and warehousing buildings. MLM’s building service engineers provided M&E design for the waste transfer station including exhaust extraction systems, odour control and carbon air filtration systems as well as full building services design for the welfare and administration building. The building was designed to achieve a BREEAM standard of “very good” and included roof mounted photovoltaic cells and PIR Controlled lighting. A major consideration was the requirement to maintain an existing substation and associated switchgear on the site, serving adjacent premises and the installation of a site length 11KV cable to supply the air filtration system. Works also included fire fighting mains, internal and external lighting and traffic control networks for the weighbridge, barriers and traffic lights.
